GENERATION X

Like plants pushing through cracks in the sidewalk they have grown,
so strong that hopeful dreams still stir within them like great seeds.
They came from broken homes and broken dreams
and a sick nation that had also lost its way.
The advertisers called them “Generation X” or “Y” or “Cybergeeks,”
and “mooks n’ midriffs” and used tricks to sell them lies.
They made them clothes of black covered with skulls that made people afraid,
or baggy pants which gang members allegedly employ to hide big guns.

These kids had been exposed to brainwashing totalitarians made
to twist their minds to give up hope and think that other people were no good.
They saw dead things on every channel all their lives since they could talk,
and twisted, sneering cartoon characters designed to make them hate or fear.
They ate fake foods with dyes and chemicals that made them sick.
They played with video games that could be used to teach them how to kill.
When they were born they got an artificial substitute for mothers’ milk
and hugged stuffed animals instead of moms at their three jobs.

They didn’t have advantages like those a generation past.
Their college dreams vanished because economists made shady deals.
They couldn’t see the world by hitch-hiking the way others had done
because it had been made into a crime.
The small apartment that they craved was out of reach,
a thousand bucks for each small room.
A job no longer paid a living wage; three were required to survive.
You could get jailed for downloading a song, or a thousand other phony crimes.

Libraries closed and jobs went overseas and insurance made driving out of reach.
The icebergs melted and the TV brainwashing became more lurid every day.
Despite all that these young people play peace drums in their tiny rented rooms,
as quietly as they are able so neighbors won’t call landlords or cops.
Christ’s dream of peace still stirs in them, though most don’t call it that.
Respect for all the world, not lies and greed, is what they want.
That spark of hope on each bright face, the brotherly love that Jesus preached,
could be what’s needed to ignite again the torch of Liberty.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it
or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit,
but instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read.
    I will certainly be back.
